The CEC conducts a workshop on electoral reform

The CEC commenced today a four day training workshop on electoral legal reform with participation of political party representatives, a number of official bodies and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Ramallah.

This activity which comes as part of EU funded project ‘’ support to the CEC in 2012-13’’ aims at exploring the current election laws and systems and examining their suitability for the existing Palestinian situation and conformity with international standards. The outcome of discussions will be recommendations to be raised before relevant authorities.

In the opening speech, CEO. Hisham Kuhail stressed the importance of such workshops in shedding light on issues related to some procedural aspects of the election law derived from CEC’s latest experience in local elections, indicating that adjusting such laws is the responsibility of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC).
