The CEC commissioners held a joint video conference meeting between the CEC headquarters in Ramallah and the regional office in Gaza last week.

Dr. Hanna Nasir, Chairman of the CEC, emphasized the importance of updating the voter registry for any upcoming elections.  He stressed that the voter registry ought to be updated regardless of when elections may be conducted—the date of which is currently under discussion between the major political parties.

The CEC’s Chief Electoral Officer, Mr. Hisham Kuhail, and Deputy Chief Electoral Officer, Mr. Ashraf Shuaibi, presented the commissioners with a briefing of the CEC’s recent and upcoming activities.  Among these activities were developing the IT department’s infrastructure, defining the borders of electoral districts, installing an electronic archiving system, conducting awareness projects in schools and developing the skills and knowledge of core CEC staff through trainings, workshops, and study visits.

The briefing was followed by a discussion among the commissioners about future activities to be undertaken and decisions to be made.  The Elections Commission meets every three months in the periods between electoral events.
