The CEC announces end of local elections activities upon the decision of the Supreme Court

The CEC has received the decision of the Supreme Court issued in its session held in Ramallah today to temporarily halt the Cabinet’s decision to hold local elections until the Court decides on the case raised before it.

In light of this, the CEC announces immediate cessation of all electoral activities which commenced two months ago in adherence to the Court’s decision.

Local elections have stopped despite CECs’ continuous efforts to provide a valid and appropriate electoral environment that enables the holding of transparent elections that meet the respect of the Palestinian people and contribute to end the internal political division.

Although the CEC respects the Court’s decision, it maintains hope for the democratic process, through elections, to be resumed soon.
