Presidential Decree No. () of 2005 
Concerning the Postponement of Legislative Elections

 

Chairman of the PLO’s Executive Committee

President of the Palestinian National Authority,

After reviewing the Amended Basic Law of 2003, and its further amendments, and the General Elections Law No. (13) of 1995, and its further amendments, the Presidential Decree No. (5) of 2005, the Central Elections Commission letter No. PLO 939 – 2005, issued on May 23, 2005.

And based on the national agreement on amending the General Elections Law No. (13) of 1995, endorsed upon its third reading,

In reference to our observations in line with the national agreement achieved in Cairo, concerning the third reading of this bill.

And based on the powers vested in us and for the sake of public interest,

 

We hereby issue the following:

 

Article (1)

The scheduled date for Legislative Elections is cancelled as per the Presidential Decree No. (5) issued on January 8, 2005.

 

Article (2)

The new scheduled date for Legislative Elections shall be determined as per a Presidential Decree issued after completing all necessary legal procedures and national consultations.

 

All competent authorities, each within its own jurisdiction, shall implement the provisions of this Decree, which shall enter into force upon its issuance, and shall be published in the Official Gazette.
