Cabinet Resolution No. (07/121/17/C.M/R.H) of 2016

Postponement of Local Councils’ Elections 2016

 

Based on the powers vested in us by law and for the sake of public interest and after reviewing the following:

The Amended Basic Law of 2003, and its further amendments;

Local Council’s Elections Law No. (10) of 2005, and its further amendments;

Local Authorities Law No. (1) of 1997, and its further amendments;

Decree by Law No. (1) of 2007, on General Elections and its further amendments;

Cabinet Resolution No. (03/108/17/C.M/R.H) of 2016,

The Cabinet, in its session held on October 4, 2016 in the city of Hebron, hereby decided the following:

 

Article (1)

Postponement of Local Councils’ Elections throughout the country for a period of four months, during which work will be focused on providing the enabling legal environment for conducting elections in all Palestinian local councils in one day.

Article (2)

Delegating the Minister of Local Government by the Council of Ministers to dissolve local councils whose terms expired on October 8, 2016, and to appoint interim committees to conduct the tasks of the dissolved local councils until the conduction of elections.

Article (3)

All that may contradict with the provisions of this resolution shall be nullified.

Article (4)

All competent authorities, each within its own jurisdiction, shall implement the provisions of this resolution. The resolution shall enter into force upon its issuance and shall be published in the Official Gazette.
