The CEC announces the commencement of voter registration, exhibition and challenge in the localities of the West Bank 

In preparations for the upcoming Local Councils Elections scheduled on 13 May 2017, the CEC opened today 758 voter registration centers in 391 localities in the West Bank, including Jerusalem. Registration is open until Wednesday, 8 March 2017 from 8:00am till 3:00 Pm in the registration centers across the West Bank districts or online through CEC’s webpage: www.elections.ps.

According to Law and CEC’s procedures, any Palestinian citizen holding of a Palestinian identification card and is 17 years and above at the time of registration is an eligible registrant. 

The CEC encourages unregistered citizens in the West Bank or those who wish to verify of change their registration information to seize this last opportunity to participate in the upcoming elections since registration is a requirement for nomination and voting. The preliminary voters list currently includes 1,125,310 voters representing 76.19% of the total eligible voters in the West Bank. Any Palestinian may review the preliminary voters list and object to the registration of other registrants if deemed not eligible according to law.

In the same vein, the CEC has, last week, launched an awareness campaign on registration and challenges and opened accreditation of observers and media and journalists wishing to monitor and cover the upcoming elections. The CEC has also cooperated with the Ministry of Education in the recruitment and training of around 1400 registration staff in the West Bank
