The CEC meets with the Elections Working Group

The CEC held a meeting today with the Elections Working Group (EWG) at its premises in Al-Bireh.

CEC Chairman, Dr. Hanna Nasir, discussed CEC’s technical procedures and plans in preparations for the upcoming Local Council Elections assigned on the 8th of October 2016.

Dr. Nasir stated that the upcoming elections will be held according to Local Council Elections Law No. 10 of 2005 which adopts the system of proportional representation (lists) as the case with the 2012 local elections.

Dr. Nasir also explained that the CEC, in cooperation with the Government and political parties, are exerting all efforts to hold elections on the assigned date in 416 localities in the West Bank and Gaza Strip in accordance to the set of standards and procedures stipulated in the law.

The CEC will shortly open the door for local and international observation missions to monitor elections, and is in the process of issuing codes of conduct for political parties and Civil Society Organizations to regulate their relation with the CEC during elections.

On their part, EWG members expressed their confidence in the work of the Commission and declared their full support to make a success of the CEC’s work and the electoral process.
