Today, the CEC in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (ME&HE) in Ramallah organized a one-day workshop to evaluate Elections Education at School activity targeting second graders. Participants were representatives of the CEC, ME&HE, school supervisors and teachers who supervised the implementation of the activity in twenty schools across the West Bank.

In his opening speech, CEO Hisham Kuhail, stressed the importance of such projects in disseminating election education among youth which is in line with CEC’s vision and role in voter education. On his part, Mr. Tharwat Zaid, Director General of Educational Administration and Supervision at the Ministry explained the importance of this activity which complies with the Ministry’s approach of incorporating innovative integrated methods of education.

It should be indicated that this activity is implemented for the first time in basic schools and aims at laying the foundation for democratic participation among second graders through integrated educational method of teaching. Through the project, students studied animal characteristics and voted for their favorite animal. The project was generously funded by the EC and implemented in cooperation with the ME&HE and Friends school in Ramallah. The CEC will replicate the same activity on a larger scale to cover more schools in the upcoming semester.
