The CEC organizes a workshop to assess the needs of people with disabilities

The CEC organized today a workshop in Ramallah in cooperation with the Union of People with Disabilities to discuss and assess their needs for the aim of facilitating their participation in future elections.

In his opening speech, Deputy CEO, Ashraf Shuaibi, thanked attendants for their participation and stressed the objective of the project in raising electoral awareness among this sector and facilitating and ensuring their rights in democratic participation whether as registrants, voters or candidates.

On their part, the directors of the union offices expressed their interest and willingness to cooperate with the CEC in achieving this goal which is in line with the union’s vision in supporting people with disabilities and enabling them to take part in elections.

It should be indicated that this workshop is a preliminary stage implemented in cooperation with the union of people with disabilities and funded by UNDP. In the next stages, the CEC will aim to rehabilitate registration and polling centers in both the West Bank and Gaza Strip to meet the needs of this category and provide training for core CEC staff to be able to better respond to the different needs of disabled people during elections.
