The Central elections Commission (CEC) published the Decree-Law No. (10) of 2026, concerning the amendment of Decree-Law No. (1) of 2007, concerning General Elections and its further amendments, issued and published in the Official Gazette on June 18, 2026.
The amendment provides for increasing the number of members of the Legislative Council to (200) members, lowering the age of candidacy to 23 years, increasing the percentage of women representation, and dictating that each electoral list should have a minimum of 20 candidates.
Furthermore, the amendment provides for candidates adherence to the Amended Basic Law, the provisions of the Decree-Law and its further amendments, as well as recognizing the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian People, as well as its political and national program and relevant international resolutions.
