The CEC announces its readiness to conduct the 2017 Local Council Elections

The CEC Commissioners met today at CEC premises in Al-Bireh, and through video conference with Gaza Regional Office, in light of the Cabinet’s decision issued today to hold the 2017 Local Councils Elections in the West Bank and postpone elections in Gaza Strip.

 Accordingly, the CEC confirms that it’s technically ready to hold elections in the West Bank in accordance with the Cabinet’s decision. The CEC has also approved the modified elections timeline in accordance with Local Councils Elections Law No. 10 of 2005 and its amendments. 

The CEC maintains hope for the electoral process to be resumed in Gaza Strip soon in order for the democratic process to be completed in all localities. The CEC also hopes for the continuation of the national dialogue initiated by political factions and CSOs for the conduct of elections in Gaza and encourages collaboration between all concerned stakeholders to provide the necessary conditions and freedoms to ensure elections success.
