The CEC holds a training workshop for journalists
The CEC organized this week a two-day training workshop on media coverage of elections targeting local journalists in Ramallah.
CEO, Hisham Kuhail, stressed during the opening session, the importance of the media role during and after electoral events. Mr. Kuhail said that the aim of the workshop is to enhance CEC’s relations with the media and expose them to international experiences related to media coverage of elections.
Twenty media representatives participated in the training program funded by the European Union. The training focused on media coverage of elections, particularly information gathering, classification and examination and included writing skills of press releases, media investigations and reports.
The training presented by journalist, Mohammad Daraghmeh, included practical examples of media coverage to electoral events from around the world as well as how to preserve neutrality of media coverage of elections during election campaigning and how to report objectively without personal, partisan, religious or sectarian bias.
The session also discussed the experience of the last local elections and the accompanying media coverage, and included an evaluation of the relationship between the CEC and media during the electoral process.
It should be indicated that the CEC held a similar session for journalists in Gaza last month where trainees were selected from among applicants who met the conditions of participation, particularly being practicing journalists.
