The CEC launches the third phase of project ‘’ electoral awareness support in partnership with CSOs’’

The CEC has launched, mid this month, the third phase of project’’ Electoral Awareness Support in Partnership with CSOs’’ funded by the European Union (EU). The project aims at supporting initiatives implemented by CSOs that enhance electoral awareness and political participation among citizens. The first two phases were successfully implemented last year with participation of 30 CSOs in both the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

In this phase, which will extend for two months, 14 CSOs from both the WB and GS will participate in implementing activities targeting various sectors of the Palestinian community and decision –makers towards enhancing political and electoral participation.

The activities will include training programs, research and evaluation studies of the last local elections, media trainings and productions on electoral issues and accountability. 

It should be indicated that the CEC has established an Electoral Awareness Fund in 2012 for the aim of financially supporting electoral awareness activities implemented by CSOs. The Fund encourages collaboration among CSOs in implementing initiatives which enhance democracy, good governance and political participation. The CEC regularly invites CSOs to submit project concepts which are in line with these objectives and selects projects which meet the pre-established selection criteria for both CSOs and projects which are currently being funded by the EU.
