Statement on repetition of citizen’s data in the voters’ list

Basel Alqasem
With the completion of the legal period of registration, exhibition and challenge on 27 July 2016, the data entry of the information of new registrants started immediately and separately from the general voters’ list.

The CEC has published yesterday, the list of new registrants who have either registered for the first time or changed their registration centers, at the premises of localities and CEC’s district offices for one day. This procedure is to allow individuals, Civil Society Organizations and political parties to review registration data and submit their objections on this regard to the CEC. This date was selected as it coincided with the legal period of objections and processing of objections by the CEC.

The CEC, therefore, wishes to clarify that it would be inaccurate at this stage to compare the list of new registrants to the preliminary voters’ list which was published during the registration period, since around 30 thousand previously registered voters have changed their registration centers during this period.

The CEC is still processing the general voters’ list and will produce the final voter’s list by mid August as scheduled. Processing means elimination of repetition in citizens’ data, cancellation of deaths and registrants who are under the age of 18.

On this occasion, the CEC urges all stakeholders, including media representatives, political parties and observers to refer to the CEC before issuing any reports or giving information with regards to the progress of elections
