The CEC cotinues educational meetings with the observation and civil society organizations

The CEC conducted a number educational meetings with observation bodies, political parties and civil society organizations regarding the voters list updating process assigned in the period 28/3 until 1/4/2007 to illustrate the importance of the updating process and the target group.

Jerusalem electoral district conducted a workshop with a number of youth and community organizations. The workshop discussed the purpose of the updating process in maintaining an accurate and up to date record of voters as well as illustrating the target group while referring to the possibility of correcting the information of previously registered voters.

In the presence of the CEO, Mr. Hisham Kuhail, Ramallah electoral district held a meeting with representatives of local observation bodies and civil society organizations. Mr. Kuhail explained that the updating of the voters list is a periodic procedure the CEC conducts on an annual basis and that the CEC will operate alternative centers instead of the government schools due to the fact that the CEC received no response from the Ministry of Education regarding the use of schools as updating centers.

On its part, Jericho electoral district met with a number of women organizations in the district. The meeting discussed the aim of the updating process and the role of the civil society organizations in educating the Public.

Several meetings were also arranged in Qalqilya district with civil society organizations, accredited local observation bodies and political parties. The meetings discussed the importance of accrediting of new observers and agents and issuing them accreditation cards to enable them enter the updating centers.

Similar meetings were also held in Hebron district with civil society organizations to encourage them to submit accreditation applications to the CEC as observation bodies. A number of brochures on the updating procedures were distributed to the attendants.

In Tulkarem district, a meeting was held with the civil society organizations. The meeting discussed the purpose of the updating process and the updating centers the Cec intends to operate.

In the same context, Jenin arranged a meeting with representatives of the political parties. The meeting discussed the role of the political parties in the updating process and the importance of their participation in monitoring the process through their accredited agents.
