The Central Elections Commission (CEC) will conduct five trainings in the West Bank and Gaza Strip throughout the upcoming week, for 200 local observers accredited for the 2021 Palestinian elections.
CEC Spokesperson, Farid Tamallah, stated that these trainings come as part the effort to brief representatives of locally accredited observation bodies on the specifics related to their work, which will enable their effective observation over the upcoming 2021 Palestinian elections. The trainings will inform observers of their rights and legal obligations while observing the electoral process. Tamallah also clarified the mechanisms in place for filing and following-up on observer complaints to the CEC.
The CEC has already accredited 70 local institutions to observe the electoral process in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, constituting over 8,800 observers. Observer accreditation applications for the legislative elections will continue being received until May 15, 2021, with 300 international observers accredited so far from 20 different regional and international institutions (both governmental and nongovernmental).
Election campaigning for the 2021 legislative elections will begin at the end of April, with polling day scheduled for May 22, 2021, directly preceded by the designated polling day for security forces two days prior.
