The CEC concludes project ‘training of media students’ in five universities

The Central Elections Commission (CEC) concluded today a project titled ‘’ training of media students’’ which was funded by the Government of Norway, and implemented in five universities in the West Bank and Gaza Strip during the first academic semester.

The project targeted 150 media students in five Palestinian universities: Brizeit, Al-Najah, Hebron, Gaza and the Islamic university with participation of five lecturers. Students received training on the accurate elections coverage, usage of electoral terminology and production of media content addressing electoral issues.  The project resulted in the production of 50 Audi, visual and written material addressing electoral issues such as managing of electoral campaigns and encouraging electoral participation. Fifteen productions, three from each university, were selected and broadcasted via local media outlets, thus contributing to increased level of creativity and competitiveness among students.

This project comes as part of continued collaboration between the CEC and Palestinian universities towards increasing electoral awareness and participation among youth. In previous years, the CEC implemented a series of awareness activities targeting youth at universities to enhance their electoral awareness and encourage democratic participation and contributed in the inclusion of courses on elections and democracy as part of universities curricula.
