The CEC conducts training workshop for new elections employees

Tuesday, February 23, 2010

22 February, Ramallah - The Central Elections Commission (CEC) commenced a two-day training workshop today for its newly appointed elections staff.

The Commission’s CEO, Mr. Hisham Kuhail, opened the first training session by stressing the independence and neutrality of the CEC and emphasizing its role in administering and organizing free and fair elections. The trainees were briefed on the CEC’s preparations that have been carried out so far, including meeting with representatives of Palestinian political parties and factions.

Mr. Kuhail also emphasized the importance of the role and work of the new employees who will be joining the Commission, as they will be directly executing the elections in their interactions with voters and candidates.

The aim of the training is to upgrade the performance level of the new employees so that they are able to perform their tasks efficiently. The new staff were carefully selected from those who either had previous experience working with the commission or had been enrolled in specialized training courses organized by the commission in the previous year.

Forty-six participants are enrolled in this workshop, which consists of 13 sessions provided by the Commission’s professional training team.  After the training, participants will be deployed to the CEC’s 11 district offices in the West Bank and Jerusalem.
