The CEC commences the project of the youth leaders elections in the summer camps 2007

Yesterday, and in Cooperation with the National Committee for Summer Camps (NCSC), the CEC commenced the implementation of the project called youth leaders elections in the summer camps 2007 in three camps in Alquds district (Biddu, Al-Qbaiba and Shuzzz*zfat). The project will be implemented in rest of the West Bank districts next week.

 

In the first days of the project, the participants were introduced to the general idea behind the project. The CEC set timelines for the electoral processes and selected a number of observers to monitor elections in the camps. It also fixed date of the polling day where there will be simulation to the electoral activities such as registration, nomination, election campaigning, polling, counting and the declaration of the elections results.

 

The (NCSC) distributed educational brochures prepared by the CEC titled (learn elections alphabet) that give participants a general overview about all types of Palestinian elections.

 

The Project aims at implementing the concepts of the electoral process practically and to enhance the concept of the democratic participation among the participants as well as to strengthen the concept of electoral awareness among the youth generation and  in particular, those of the age categories between 12-16 years.

 

It should be indicated that the CEC signed earlier a memorandum of cooperation with the (NCSC) to implement the project in 22 of its summer camps across the West Bank districts by conducting mock elections to elect a youth leader in each camp.
