The CEC declared that its work will continue to be suspended tomorrow until real guarantees of security are made for its offices and employees.
The CEC will re-evaluate the situation tomorrow morning and, in light of this evaluation, will make a decision as to whether its offices will reopen. The CEC requested that its employees be prepared to return to work in the case that it receives assurances that their safety will be guaranteed.
It should be reiterated that, yesterday, a number of CEC offices in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip were stormed and fired upon by a group of armed men who verbally and physically assaulted employees, stole and destroyed office equipment and ordered the closure of the offices.
The CEC affirmed that it is a professional, independent body that conducts elections according to international law and standards and adheres to the principles of transparency, integrity and neutrality.
