The CEC Receives the GUPW’s Report on Observing the 2026 Local Elections

Dr. Rami Hamdallah, Chairman of the Central Elections Commission (CEC), received today, Monday, a report from the General Union of Palestinian Women (GUPW) on observing the 2026 Local Elections.

The handover took place while Dr. Hamdallah was receiving a delegation from GUPW, at CEC HQ in Al-Bireh in the presence of Ashraf Shuaibi. The delegation included the Haitham Arar, Union’s Secretariat, Rima Nazzal, general assembly member, and a group of the technical staff of both GUPW and the CEC.

CEC’s Chairman emphasized the significance of the role played by women organizations, on top of which is the GUPW, across the various electoral stages, through observing the flow of the electoral process, enhancing free and active participation of women, in addition to the awareness efforts to promote women’s political participation as well as supporting their access to decision making positions.

Furthermore, Dr. Hamdallah pointed out the recent amendments to the General Elections Law, including increasing women share in the upcoming legislative council, enhancing their opportunities to participate in decision-making positions. Moreover, Dr. Hamdallah reiterated the CEC’s readiness to cooperate with various organizations, on top of which is GUPW, contributing to enhancing women empowerment and expanding their presence across the different stages of the electoral process.
