Chairman of the Central Elections Commission (CEC), Dr. Rami Hamdallah received today the German Representative from the German Representative Office in Ramallah, Anke Schlimm, at CEC's HQ in Al-Bireh. This effort aims to enhance cooperation and support the democratic process in Palestine.
During the meeting, Dr. Hamdallah presented CEC's work and the ongoing preparations for the upcoming stages until polling day, in accordance with the applicable professional and international standards, meanwhile pointing out the challenges and obstacles facing the CEC, most importantly the practices of the occupation, as well as obstructing access of some materials necessary for conducting the electoral process.
On a similar premise, Dr. Hamdallah addressed the electoral process in Deir al-Balah, indicating the stages already accomplished and the efforts undertaken to tackle the field obstacles and guarantee progress of the electoral process.
Moreover, the meeting discussed the nature of CEC's partnerships with international organizations and local civil society organizations, which contributed to the accreditation of observers and media organizations, supporting the CEC efforts in enhancing integrity and transparency.
In conclusion, Dr. Hamdallah expressed his utmost appreciation for the continued support Germany and its institutions provide, directly or through the European Union (EU), emphasizing the importance of this support to enhancing the democratic path in Palestine.
