Thursday, March 12, 2026

The Central Elections Commission (CEC) announced receiving 58 challenges against electoral lists and individual candidates nominated for the election of local authorities scheduled for April 25.

In a press release issued Thursday afternoon, the CEC clarified that 18 of the received challenges were filed against electoral lists, one of which was accepted, while the remaining 40 were filed against individual candidates, with one challenge accepted and the rest rejected.

The CEC indicated that submitted challenges were focused on various issues, most notably the liability clearance certificate, resignations, and judicial rulings.

The CEC also emphasized examining challenges in accordance with the provisions of the law and the adopted manual of procedures. Challenges are accepted or rejected based on the evidence and documentation submitted by the challenger, in line with the applicable legal procedures. Both the challengers and the challenged parties were officially notified of the CEC’s decisions.

The CEC further added that party affected by the its decision may submit an appeal to the Elections Cases Court, who will adjudicate all submitted appeals no later than March 29, in accordance with the legal timeline dedicated to the electoral process.

Finally, on March 31, the CEC will publish the final list of electoral lists and individual candidates whose names will appear on the ballot papers.
