Press Release issued by the Coalition for Fact-Checking and Electoral Digital Rights

Wednesday, March 4, 2026

The Coalition for Fact-Checking and Electoral Digital Rights monitors the content published on social media pages and accounts in connection to the elections and continues to monitor the information circulated around the cancellation and postponement of elections in the municipal and village councils until 2027.

Tahaqaq Observatory and Tayaqan Platform teams, both members of the coalition, have worked on verifying and checking the facts behind the claim by double-checking official sources, including the Central Elections Commission (CEC) website, without finding any grounds, foundations, or official announcement confirming said information.

Moreover, the Coalition team contacted the CEC’s Spokesperson, Fareed Taamallah, who also denied those claims while emphasizing that the CEC is continuing its work and efforts in conducting the electoral process according to the announced timeframe without any changes.

The Decree-Law No. (23) of 2025, concerning the Election of Local Authority Councils grants the CEC the right to request postponing the elections in one council or more for a period no longer than four weeks, if required by technical necessities or for the sake of maintaining the integrity of elections, provided that the decision of postponement is issued by the Palestinian Cabinet.

The coalition confirms that sharing and spreading such claims without verifying and checking the facts with the official sources will mislead public opinion, undermine and weaken trust and confidence in the democratic process. The coalition calls upon the public and the media to pursue accuracy and rely on official sources of information in order to preserve the honesty of the electoral process and the integrity of the information environment.
