The Central Elections Commission (CEC) announced on Tuesday morning the preliminary figures of the nomination stage under the 2026 Local Elections, which was concluded yesterday, Monday, as follows:
First: Municipal Councils
The total number of authorities reached (137), with (370) applicant electoral lists, comprised of (4439) men and women candidates, distributed as follows:
- (83) Municipalities with more than one nominated electoral list, where elections will be physically held.
- (37) Municipalities with one registered electoral list meeting all nomination criteria (acclamation).
- (6) Municipalities with one nominated electoral list, however incomplete.
- (4) Municipalities with no nominated electoral lists.
- (7) Municipalities pending completing their nomination applications.
Second: Village Councils
Local authority councils in villages with nine seats and individual nominations. Their total number reached (284) village councils, and the number of candidates nominated for their councils reached (2800) men and women candidates, distributed as follows:
- (110) Villages with nominated candidates exceeding the number of its seats, where elections will be physically held.
- (81) Villages with nominated candidates equal to the number of seats (acclamation).
- (56) Villages with nominated candidates less than the number of seats.
- (37) Villages with no nominated candidates.
The CEC confirmed that these figures are only preliminary, and the next three days will be dedicated to correcting and/or completing applications, meaning that figures displayed here might witness a limited change, especially with regards to candidates and lists who did not complete all their documents.
It is worth mentioning that the CEC will be publishing the preliminary list of candidate and electoral list names next Saturday, for the public to review and submit challenges.
