The Central Elections Commission (CEC) announced the commencement of the awareness and voter education campaign associated with the nomination stage, as part of the greater comprehensive awareness and voter education campaign accompanying the 2026 Local Elections, scheduled for the twenty-fifth of upcoming April.
The CEC clarified that the campaign is part of the ongoing preparations of the next stage of the electoral process – Nomination Stage – aiming to empower and enable citizens, especially potential candidates, to be accurately informed of the requirements and procedures of nomination under a clear and regulated legal framework, in light of the amendments introduced to the local elections law.
The CEC indicated the campaign targets the Palestinian public in general and tackles the detailed conditions for nomination, nomination request submission mechanism, documents to be attached, and the guidelines related to nomination in local authorities; both municipal and village councils, as well as the procedural differences associated with each. It further provides clarifications regarding the legal periods for receiving requests and applications (February 23, 2026 – March 1, 2026) as well as the follow-up and inquiries mechanisms.
The CEC is conducting this campaign in partnership with a group of local media outlets, through broadcasting audio and visual awareness materials, publishing announcements online, contributing to expanding access to information, enhancing principles of transparency, and making knowledge available to all.
The CEC invited all those interested in running for the elections to invest in the current period to review all terms and conditions for nomination, verifying required data, adhering to the defined legal periods, and ensuring readiness in advance to guarantee the easy and organized flow of the electoral process.
