Al-Bireh – The Central Elections Commission (CEC) concluded today, Monday, the stage of voters’ registry exhibition and challenges, in accordance with the announced plan, launched last Saturday with the exhibition of the preliminary voters’ registry in 420 local authorities across the districts of the West Bank. In addition the preliminary voters’ registry was published online, for the first time, on its official website.
The CEC indicated that the exhibition and challenges stage constitutes a key milestone in the endeavor of updating the voters’ registry. Through this stage, the preliminary voters’ registry is made available to the public to review and verify their data, or submit challenges against names that do not meet the eligibility criteria in accordance with the law, and are still listed in the voters’ registry.
The CEC clarified that with the conclusion of this stage, it will review all submitted challenges and requests, allow the correction of data in accordance with the adopted procedures, in preparation for adopting the final voters’ registry, being the backbone of the electoral process.
The CEC further pointed out receiving, during the exhibition and challenges stage, (25) challenges against the listing of others, (138) data correction requests, and (14) challenged not listing their names, all of which are dealt with according to the legal and administrative frameworks in place.
The CEC emphasized that the exhibition and challenges stage was executed in accordance with the highest standards of transparency, in the presence of accredited observers and journalists. Such procedures contribute to enhancing the integrity of the electoral process, guaranteeing the accuracy of the voters’ registry and its true representation of voters’ will.
The CEC reaffirmed its commitment to conducting the local elections according to the devised timeline and provisions of the law, in a manner that guarantees broad and fair participation of all segments of the society.
Moreover, the CEC shared working currently on launching the nomination stage, scheduled for the twenty-third of February, continuing until the first of March. During this period, the CEC will receive nomination applications from electoral lists for local authorities classified as municipalities, and individual nomination requests for local authorities classified as village councils.
