Under the ongoing preparations for the 2026 Local Elections, the Central Elections Commission (CEC) conducted a series voter awareness and guidance workshops and meetings, discussing the local elections law and nomination procedures. The workshops covered the districts of Jerusalem, Hebron, Nablus, Qalqilya, Salfit and Tulkarem.
The workshops targeted various segments of the society, including potential candidates, the youth, women, journalists, representatives of local community organizations, and heads of local authorities.
In a press release issued on Wednesday morning, the CEC indicated conducting 12 voter education workshops and meetings during this week, with the participation of approximately 300 citizens, in partnership with municipalities, CSOs and local organizations. During these activities, participants were introduce to the provisions of the new local elections law, including the procedures related to nomination in accordance with the list system adopted in municipalities, and individual nomination for village councils, in addition to clarifying the legal and regulatory aspects relevant to the electoral process.
The CEC confirmed its continued education and awareness efforts through its campaign targeting potential candidates in the different districts during the upcoming weeks, indicating that all information and procedures relevant to nomination is available on its official website. Additionally, the AI chatbot (Nazih) was announced, which is available on the CEC’s Website, aiming to enable citizens to acquire accurate and prompt answers to their various inquires related to elections.
The CEC further clarified that these workshops has prioritized the youth, women and persons with disabilities, as part of its approach aiming to guarantee extensive knowledge of elections, enhancing the participation of different segments of the society in the democratic process, reaffirming that these workshops will take place in all villages and towns during the upcoming weeks.
These efforts are part of the CEC’s vision aiming to consolidate an informed electoral culture, enhancing trust and confidence in legal measures and procedures, in a manner that guarantees the utmost degree of integrity and transparency, paving the path for a broader active participation in the local elections scheduled for upcoming twenty-fifth of April.
