The CEC Receives the Consul General of Italy in Jerusalem

The Chairman of the Central Elections Commission (CEC), Dr. Rami Hamdallah received today, Monday, the Consul General of Italy in Jerusalem, Domenico Pilato, at the CEC HQ in Al-Bireh to discuss the latest developments concerning ongoing preparations for conducting the 2026 Local Elections.

Dr. Hamdallah emphasized the deep relationship between Palestine and Italy, which is regarded as a key partner in enhancing the democratic process, building Palestinian institutions, and supporting efforts of enhancing transparency and integrity in elections.

During the meeting, Dr. Hamdallah shared insights on the technical, administrative and logistical preparations led by the CEC for conducting the local elections scheduled for Saturday, April 25, 2026. Moreover, Dr. Hamdallah emphasized the CEC’s full readiness to conduct the electoral process in accordance with the highest standards of integrity, transparency and professionalism, in order to guarantee citizens’ ability to practice their democratic rights in a full and secure manner. In addition, Dr. Hamdallah pointed out the procedures developed by the CEC for the accreditation of local and international observer bodies as well as journalists, extending an invitation to the Italian media and institutions to participate in covering and observing the elections.

CEC’s Chairman, Dr. Rami Hamdallah indicated the key challenges facing the electoral process, especially measures and practices imposed by the occupation, reaffirming the CEC’s keenness to face said challenges and continue working towards guarantee transparent and honest local elections.
