Al-Bireh – the Central Elections Commission (CEC) continues implementing its voter awareness and education program as part of its preparations to conduct the 2026 Local Elections. Since the launching of the awareness campaign, beginning of current year, the CEC conducted, in collaboration with its partners from official institutions, CSOs, village and municipal councils, and universities, more than 60 awareness workshops in the field, with the participation of approximately 2500 citizens (men and women) in the different governorates.
These activities focused on enhancing knowledge pertaining to the electoral process and the new law No. (23) of 2025, concerning the Election of Local Authority Councils, in addition to clarifying the registration, nomination, and polling stages, and the women quota. Additionally, it aimed to consolidate a culture of community participation, being a key cornerstone in building democratic local governance, in preparation for the stages of local elections scheduled for April 25, 2026 in 420 local authorities; including 136 municipal councils and 284 village councils.
Awareness workshops targeted a wide and diverse spectrum of segments of the society including the youth, women, students, journalists, influencers, members of political parties, heads and members of local authorities, employees of governmental institutions and security forces, representatives of CSOs, Chambers of Commerce, the retirees, and volunteers.
Moreover, the CEC organized coordination meetings for the various Directorates of Local Government, Directorates of Education, the Civil Coordination Office, security forces, and official media, with the aim of unifying efforts and enhancing institutional complementarity in a way that contributes to guaranteeing a supportive and enable environment for a transparent and honest electoral process.
The CEC affirmed that these efforts are in line with its vision aiming to reach out to all segments of the society without exception, guaranteeing an electoral process based on the principles of transparency, participation and national responsibility. Furthermore, the CEC emphasized its continued awareness activities to encourage citizens’ registration before its conclusion on January 24, 2026, in transition to the Exhibition and Challenges stage, followed by receiving nomination applications in accordance with the provisions of the law. It is worth mentioning that registration is available via the CEC’s official website www.elections.ps, which will be launched in the field on the 20th of current month at the premises of local authorities and the CEC’s offices in the various districts of the West Bank.
