The Chairman of the Central Elections Commission (CEC), Dr. Rami Hamdallah received today, Monday, H.E. Minister of Local Government; Dr. Sami Hijjawi at CEC’s headquarters in Al-Bireh to discuss the ongoing preparations for the upcoming local elections scheduled for April 25, 2026.
Attended by several official from the Ministry of Local Government (MoLG) and the CEC, the meeting discussed means of coordination and complementarity between the CEC and MoLG in a way that guarantees technical, administrative and legal readiness for conducting the electoral process, in a manner that enhances integrity and transparency.
To that end, it was agreed to establish a joint operation room, in addition to committing the collaboration of Local Government Directorates in the different governorates of the West Bank, throughout all stages of the electoral process and especially on polling day.
Furthermore, the discussion included presenting the awareness campaign launched by the CEC for voter education on the importance of registration for and participation in the local elections, in addition to the approval of opening registration centers at the premises of local authorities.
Both parties agreed to the importance of continued coordination and consultation through the upcoming stages of the electoral process in a way that contributes to its success and to enhancing citizens’ trust in the democratic process.
