The Central Elections Commission (CEC) convened a meeting today, Monday, with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to discuss the arrangements and preparations for conducting the fifth local elections, scheduled for April 25, 2026.
During the meetings, the CEC emphasized its keenness on partnership with the CSOs, pointing out their significant role throughout all stages of the electoral process.
The meeting included informing CSOs representatives on the CEC’s efforts following the decision of the Palestinian Cabinet to announce the call for conducting local elections as well as the local elections timeframes. Moreover, it included details on the awareness campaign launched by the CEC for the first stage of the electoral process; voter registration, which focused on the registration of the youth (females and males). It also included conducting awareness workshops in all governorates of the West Bank in partnership with CSOs, as well as the field-awareness campaigns at universities and broadcasting awareness content through local media outlets.
Furthermore, participants were introduced to the procedures for accrediting observer bodies for the 2026 Local Elections, as well as the most important amendments introduced to the local elections law; the new electoral system and relevant technical aspects. Finally, the CEC emphasized its commitment to adhering to the new local elections law with complete neutrality and professionalism, while respecting the different positions of the CSOs and political parties concerning the law.
