The Central Elections Commission (CEC), led by its Chairman, Dr. Rami Hamdallah, convened a meeting today, Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at CEC HQ in Al-Bireh via videoconference, with its commissioners abroad, to discuss the latest updates concerning the organization and conducting of the fifth local elections, scheduled for April 25, 2026.
Dr. Hamdallah, briefed the CEC commissioners on the practical steps the CEC already commenced following the issuance of the Decree-Law concerning Local Authority Elections, and the Cabinet’s Decision announcing the day for commencing local elections in all governorates next April, as well as the recommendation to postpone local elections in the Gaza Strip until the enabling field conditions are available.
Moreover, the meeting discussed the budget that must be allocated for the local elections, plans of the executive body, CEC and CEC staff preparedness to conduct the electoral process as scheduled. The first stage of voter registration in local authorities is scheduled to commence on January 20, 2026 for five days (5).
