The Central Elections Commission (CEC) announced today, Thursday, the table of legal periods associated with the different stages of the 2026 local elections, in accordance with the Cabinet's decision, indicating the commencement of the electoral process on the upcoming April 25th.
As per the Decree-Law No. (23) of 2025, concerning the Local Authority Elections, the CEC clarified that the Registration stage will extend from January 20 – 24, 2026, followed by the Exhibition and Challenges stage which will extend from February 7 – 9, 2026. Nomination will commence for 7 days starting the morning of February 23, 2026 until the evening of March 1, 2026. It has been decided to exhibit the final register of electoral lists and their candidates on March 31, 2026.
According to the table of legal periods, the electoral campaigning stage commences on April 10, 2026 for 14 days, to end on the evening of April 23, 2026. Saturday, April 25, 2026 will be polling day, as per the Cabinet's decision, and the election results shall be announced within 72 hours from the conclusion of the tabulation process.
