The CEC Receives the Special Representative of the UNDP Administrator

H.E. Dr. Rami Hamdallah, Chairman of the Central Elections Commission (CEC), received today, Wednesday, the Special Representative of the UNDP Administrator, Mr. Jaco Cilliers, along with his Deputy, Margunn Indreboe and Assistant Special Representative, Mr. Sufian Mushasha, in the presence of the CEC’s CEO, Mr. Ashraf Al-Shuaibi, and the Director of the PR Department, Fareed Ta’amallah.

H.E. Dr. Hamdallah welcomed Mr. Cilliers, emphasizing the importance of the relationship linking the CEC to the UNDP, being a strategic partner and one of the first partners supporting the CEC’s work, activities and projects.

Moreover, H.E. Dr. Hamdallah pointed out the recently issued Decree Law concerning the Local Authorities’ Elections, which enshrined organizing local elections within six months, confirming the CEC’s readiness to conduct elections once the law is issued. Meanwhile, H.E. reiterated the significant role of UNDP in supporting and funding the CEC’s programs, plans and awareness efforts, to guarantee the conduction of local elections despite all complicated circumstances, politically, logistically and financially.

In conclusion, the CEC’s Chairman made note of the important outcomes of the “Supporting an Inclusive Electoral Process in the State of Palestine” project, implemented by the CEC over the course of the current year, funded by the UNDP.
