The Central Elections Commission (CEC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) concluded the project of Student-Activity Committees at Schools, which aimed to enhance democracy and electoral processes amongst school students throughout the West Bank governorates.
The project was implemented in 30 schools with the participation of over 8000 students (females and males) throughout the ongoing academic year, during which elections were organized at the level of each school to elect the members of the committees, with the aim of organizing tailored activities to enhance student participation and advance their skills.
The closing ceremony was organized in the Municipality of Ramallah and was attended by Hamid Abu Mokho, Director General of the Department of Activities at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Fareed Taamallah, Director of PR Department at the CEC, and Nader Ata, Director of the Democratic Governance and Quality Services Programme at UNDP. Additionally 8 schools were selected by a committee from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education based on an evaluation of the activities they implemented in their schools during the project.
It is worth mentioning that this project is a pilot, however it is an extension of the numerous projects organized by the CEC whether in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education or Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) that work towards enhancing the level of electoral knowledge, supporting democracy and enhancing participants' skills and knowledge.
