The CEC and the EU Sign an agreement for funding projects

The Central Elections Commission (CEC) and the European Union (EU) have signed an agreement for the implementation and funding of the CEC’s projects for the next two years with a total amount of 1.2 million Euros.

The agreement aims to fund projects implemented by the CEC over the course of the next two years, in order to enhance the CEC’s institutional capacity for conducting electoral processes distinguished with competence, transparency and efficiency, while spreading electoral knowledge and the values of participation and democracy. In addition, it tends to enhance partnerships with the organizations working in the area of elections, democracy and good governance.

The agreement entails the implementation of projects for enhancing electoral awareness at schools, building partnerships with civil society organizations (CSOs) for the implementation of electoral awareness programs, networking with regional and international electoral management bodies, in addition to enhancing the CEC’s human resources, building an electoral cadre, supporting the capacities of CEC’s staff and implementing electoral reform programs.

It is worth mentioning that this agreement comes in light of the longstanding cooperation between the CEC and the EU, who has been one of CEC’s key partners since its inception.
