CEC represents Palestine in the Fourth Forum for EMBs in the Arab States

The Central Elections Commission (CEC), representing the State of Palestine, participated in the “Fourth Forum for Electoral Management Bodies in the Arab States”, held at the Arab League’s HQ in the Egyptian Capital, Cairo, under the theme “Media and Elections”, on July 12-14, 2023.

The CEC’s Secretary-General, Dr. Lamis Alami, represented the CEC at the Forum along with the CEC’s Director of Public Relations; Mr. Fareed Taamallah. The forum hosted representatives of the Arab Electoral Management Bodies (EMBs), the Arab League, UN agencies, regional and international organizations.

During the Forum’s sessions, the Palestinian delegation provided a brief on how the CEC in Palestine handles media outlets, and the importance of the role of local and international media institutions as key partners for the success of electoral processes. Moreover, the delegation shared the challenges facing the electoral process in light of the technological evolution in means of communication.

It is worth mentioning that the Forum aims to enhance cooperation and coordination among the bodies interested in the electoral process in the Arab States. Moreover, the Forum constitutes an opportunity for exchanging best practices in order to enhance the experiences and expertise relevant to the democratic process. The Forum provides participants with experiences from around the world, by engaging international and regional organizations interested in the development of future electoral practices in the Arab States.
