CEC Issues Accreditation Cards to Journalists and Observers of the Palestinian Elections

Monday, February 22, 2021

The Central Elections Commission (CEC) began issuing accreditation cards to observers and journalists, both local and international, who wish to cover and observe the 2021 Palestinian elections. Approximately 1,000 applications from journalists have already been received since its launching, in addition to 200 applications from local and international observation bodies.

These figures are expected to double by polling day, due in part to the acceptance of electronic submissions until May 15th on the CEC website (www.elections.ps).

CEC Spokesperson, Farid Ta’amallah, explained that these cards would enable thousands of observers and journalists to monitor and report on all stages of the electoral process while allowing them to effectively obtain all relevant election information. Accreditation cardholders are also permitted to access the Exhibition and Challenge Centers, polling centers, and electoral offices. The CEC studies each application individually and prints cards for those who receive accreditation.

The CEC will commence the exhibition and challenge period on March 1st, exhibiting the preliminary voter registry across 1,090 centers, enabling citizens to review the registry and submit objections to both their data and the data of others.
