CEC Chairman, Dr. Hanna Nasir, received today a delegation representing human rights and civil society organizations at CEC headquarters in Al-Bireh. The delegation delivered a letter signed by the above organizations and addressed to Mr. President, Mahmoud Abbas, and Secretary-Generals of political parties, requesting the issuance of a presidential decree that sets the date for the upcoming legislative and presidential elections, in accordance with what was stated in the President’s initiative approved by political parties at the end of last year. On his part, Dr. Nasir welcomed the initiative which represents CSOs contribution in support of the President’s initiative approved by all factions which provides for holding general elections according to the full proportional representation system in all Palestinian territories in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including Jerusalem.
