CEC Chairman Meets with the EU Special Representative to the Middle East Peace Process
CEC Chairman Dr. Hanna Nasir, received today the EU Special Representative to the Middle East Peace Process, Mrs. Susanna Terstal, at the CEC headquarters in Al-Bireh.
During the meeting, Dr. Nasir discussed the consultations the CEC ran over the past few months with representatives of political parties and Civil Society Organizations in the West Bank and Gaza Strip with regards to general elections, which resulted in a consensus of parties to take part in the elections.
Dr. Nasir also discussed elections in Jerusalem, referring to the procedures applied in previous elections where Jerusalemites cast their votes in Israeli post offices which does not measure up to international standards for free and integral elections. Dr. Nasir said that the CEC aspires for polling centers in Jerusalem to be fully under the management of the CEC as the case of polling centers in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, or at least for voting to take place inside United Nations Offices in Jerusalem to ensure the minimum requirement for elections freedom and integrity.
