The CEC, in cooperation with the Palestinian General Union of Persons with Disabilities, has commenced as of today implementing a series of electoral awareness workshops in both the West Bank (WB) and Gaza Strip (GS). The aim of the workshops is to increase electoral awareness among Persons with Disabilities with regards to their electoral rights as voters and candidates, more specifically the training will address registration and nomination requirements, electoral campaigning, voting mechanism and election observation. The workshops will also aim to promote active participation of Persons with Disabilities in future elections as both voters and candidates.
The CEC will be implementing a total of 32 workshops targeting around a thousand Participants from the Persons with Disabilities registered with the Union in all districts of the WB and GS. The CEC will be distributing Brailled awareness material to participants with vision disability. Sign language interpreting service will also be available to aid persons with hearing disability.
It should be indicated that the training comes as part of a Norwegian funded project aiming to increase electoral awareness and participation of Persons with Disabilities. As part of the project activities, the CEC has previously mainstreamed its electoral procedures to the needs of the Disabled to encourage their electoral participation.
