The CEC announced today the launch of voter registry update process for 2014 in both the West Bank and Gaza Strip until Thursday, 20th March 2014. Registration targets high school students who turned 17 years since last update whose number is estimated at 68,000. Around 39,000 students will be targeted in 719 high schools in the West Bank and 28,000 in 120 schools in Gaza. Registration is conducted in schools through teachers from the Ministry of Education (MOE) who received prior training by the CEC.
According to CEC plan, MOE supervisors will determine the time schedule for registering students at schools to ensure the completion of the process within five days without interfering with the education process.
It should be indicated that the registration process is a regular technical operation the CEC conducts annually to ensure an accurate and up-to- date registry. The last registry update took place in 2013 and resulted in increasing the percentage of eligible registered voters to 82.1%.
