CEC commences preparations for the second complementary elections

Thursday, March 14, 2013

The CEC received a decision from the Cabinet setting the date for the second complementary elections on Saturday, 1 June 2013 in 36 localities in the West Bank.

The decision included the localities in which elections were postponed due to court decisions, the localities where no electoral lists qualified for nomination during the first and complementary local elections and the localities where the majority of its council’s members had resigned.

The Cabinet assigned the CEC to take the necessary procedures to hold elections in the said localities. The CEC will publish the timeline for elections within the next two days.

It should be indicated that local elections were held on 20 October 2012 whereas the first complementary elections were held on 22 November 2012 in 117 localities and in 202 localities only one list for each locality was nominated thus won by acclamation.
