Over the past two days, CEC commissioners held meetings in Jordan to assess local elections which took place last October in the west Bank and the recent voters registry update process in the West Bank and Gaza.
The Meetings were attended by CEC Chairman, Hanna Nasir, secretary General Rami Hamdullah, and Commissioners: Mazen Sisalem, Khawla Shakhsheer, Shukri Nashashibi, Isac Muhanna, Yassir Mousa, Yousif Awadullah, Ahmad Al- Khalidi and CEO Hisham Kuhail.
The meetings discussed reports of heads of departments and observation missions and concluded that some gaps in election laws need to be fixed. CEC recommendations on this regard will be submitted to the official bodies later on.
The Commissioners have also approved code of conduct with regards to CEC’s work that is in compliance with previous ones related to transparency and good governance.
CEC met with Abdel Elah Khatib and a number of officials at the independent election commission in Jordan and reviewed the recent election experience in Jordan.
The CEC also visited the headquarters of the Palestinian National Council in Amman where members met with the Head of the Council, Mr. Adeeb al Za’noun to update him on the CEC’s work during latest election experience. The CEC was briefed about the plans for the formation of the National Council and the election of members of the council.
It should be indicated that this is the first time the CEC meet with all of its members since it was formed on 22/10/2011 without video conference. Since attending meetings for Gaza members is not possible in the West Bank and vice versa therefore it was important to hold meetings in Jordan instead.
