Voter registration is now extended till February 20th

Monday, February 18, 2013

CEC Chairman, Dr. Hanna Nasir stated today that voter registration will be extended until Wednesday, February 20th in the West Bank and Gaza Strip based on recommendations of various political parties to enable more citizens to register.

The decision comes in line with the Elections Law which gives the CEC the right to determine the timeline for registration as needed. According to statistics, the extension will enable more citizens to register as they are more aware of the importance of registration as a requirement for participation in any electoral event.

On this occasion, the CEC calls on all Palestinians to practice their right in registration before the end of the legal period and wishes to clarify that registered voters do not have to renew their registration unless there is a change in their original data.

The data entry process has already commenced and should be completed within the next four to six weeks.

The CEC wishes to thank all political parties, factions, official and non-official institutions, observation missions and the media for contributing in the success of registration process and maintains hope to have an updated and accurate voters’ registry by the end of the said period.
