Voting for Complementary Local Elections commenced as of 7:00 am this morning. Around 71332 eligible Palestinian voters are expected to cast their votes in the 59 polling centers operated by the CEC across 24 localities where elections are being held.
642 candidates from 83 electoral lists will be competing for 250 council seats in the said localities. Till this moment, elections are running smoothly in all districts without major obstacles. Voters’ turnout until 10: 00 am has reached 7.5%. The highest percentage was in Fasael (35.5%) whereas the lowest was in Anata (2.3%).
On this occasion, the CEC urges voters to exercise their right in choosing their representatives in the local councils and calls on political parties and candidate lists to abide by legal regulations to ensure the integrity and transparency of the electoral process.
Polling centers will be closed at 7:00 pm this evening in preparation for the counting of votes. Preliminary results will be announced tomorrow at 11:00 am.
It should be indicated that 23 electoral lists won by acclamation, i.e. only one list was nominated and approved.
