In a press conference held today at CEC’s headquarters in Ramallah, CEC Chairman Hanna Nasir announced that Complementary Elections will be held in 23 localities on 24 November 2012. The total number of nominated lists reached 81.
Dr. Nasir also added that 24 localities will not have elections since only one list was nominated and thus won by acclamation, whereas 20 localities did not have any lists nominated and thus members of council in such localities will be appointed by the Minister of Local Government.
Women participants in the nomination process reached 224, i.e. 26% of the total number of candidates which reached 853.
The total number of eligible voters reached 61808 distributed to 114 polling stations in 54 centers across all localities where Complementary Elections will be held.
In the same context, Dr. Nasir announced the commencement of election campaigning for the upcoming Complementary Elections according to Local Council Elections Law No. 10 of 2005 as of Saturday, 10 November 2012 until Thursday, 22 November 2012.
