The CEC Chairman and Secretary General met today with representatives of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Ramallah to discuss recent developments concerning the upcoming local elections scheduled on October 20th. The meeting comes as part of regular meetings the CEC holds with election stakeholders to keep them posted with any electoral developments.
During the meeting, participants stressed the importance of safeguarding public freedoms as a precondition for the success of elections. CSOs also expressed their willingness to draw action plans to enable citizens to exercise their rights in registration, nomination, campaigning and selecting their representatives in a free and transparent manner.
At the end of the meeting, participants entrusted the Independent Commission for Human Rights to call for a meeting soon to discuss the work mechanisms needed to ensure public freedoms are respected.
