Today, the CEC held a meeting for all Commissioners in the West Bank and Gaza Strip through video conference. The CEC Chairman, Dr. Hanna Nassir opened the session by welcoming new commissioners and stressing the independence and neutral role of the Commission.
Dr. Nassir indicated that CEC offices in Gaza are still closed. Commissioners in Gaza will continue working with concerned bodies to implement the decision of re-opening Gaza offices to allow CEC to exercise its mandate in Gaza.
The meeting also discussed the legal amendments that should be made to the elections law to comply with the reconciliation agreement.
On his part, CEO, Hisham Kuhail briefed commissioners on the legal timeframe required for updating the voters registry in Gaza as well as the cost of refurbishing and equipping The regional and five district offices in Gaza.
